Turquoise

Believed to bring luck, friendship and success, Turquoise has been prized as a gem and ornamental stone for thousands of years.

The colour of turquoise ranges from white, to sky blue, to a yellowish green. The most highly valued turquoise is generally that of a strong sky blue colour. It is formed in igneous and sedimentary rocks, and gets its colour from a combination of copper and aluminium. Turquoise is known to have been used in jewellery and ornamental objects made by ancient Persian, Egyptian and Aztec civilisations, prior to 3000BC.

One of the first gems to have been mined, turquoise is now most commonly found in Iran, Tibet, China, Egypt and Southwest America Turquoise is not a hard stone, and should therefore be well protected from scratches and chips.
