Prehnite

Named after its discoverer, Colonel Hendrik von Prehn, an early governor of the Cape of Good Hope colony in South Africa, Prehnite is a beautiful apple green gemstone with a luminous, almost mother of pearl lustre. In its opaque form, it is usually cut en cabochon, but more recently some translucent material has been faceted to create a stunning new look for Prehnite.

Until quite recently, prehnite was relatively rare, but newly discovered deposits have made the gem more widely available. Deposits are found in South Africa, Australia, China, Scotland and the United States.

Prehnite has only a medium hardness, and so should be treated with care.
