Moonstone
Known for their striking colour and the fascinating play of light within the crystal structure, the classical moonstone will be cut en cabochon, be almost transparent and will have a bluish shimmer. These stones are usually found in Sri Lanka and are considered the most valuable. Other colours of moonstone include beige, green, orange and brown. The characteristic lunar ‘glow’ of the moonstone is created by skill of the cutter.
Moonstone belongs to the feldspar family – the largest group of minerals on earth. Moonstone is found in the European Alps, Brazil, India, Mexico, Myanmar, Madagascar, Sri Lanka and the USA.
In some birthstone calendars moonstone is associated with the month of June.
