Kunzite

A relatively recent discovery, kunzite is a delicate pink gem, and depending on the angle from which it is viewed, can appear either mostly pink, violet or clear. Therefore the cut of a kunzite stone is of particular importance, in order that it best shows off the stones colour; the more intense the colour, the more valuable the stone.

Originally discovered in the early 20th century in California, kunzite is now most commonly found in Afghanistan, Madagascar, Brazil and the USA.

A relatively hard stone, kunzite is resistant to light scratches but should nevertheless be treated with care. The colour of kunzite is however affected by prolonged exposure to sunlight, so jewellery made from kunzite should not be worn on the beach or whilst sunbathing.
