Jewellery Care Tips
Rhodium Plated
To give jewellery a brighter finish, rhodium plating is often used as a finish on silver, white gold and platinum. Rhodium is hypoallergenic, so it won't react with your skin.
Keep your rhodium plated jewellery clean with a mixture of mild detergent such as soap or washing up liquid and a little water. Rinse it well and dry. To give it an extra shine, polish your rhodium plated pieces with an Annoushka polishing cloth.
Do not clean your rhodium plated jewellery in chemical cleaners such as jewellery dips, which can wear down the rhodium plating. Bear in mind that some sonic jewellery cleaners also use chemicals, and should therefore be carefully researched before use or avoided altogether. Make sure your jewellery is not in regular contact with hard surfaces which will scratch or wear down the plating, and if you are going to be doing a lot of work with your hands, remove your rings during that time. When it’s not being worn, store your rhodium plated jewellery in its own soft pouch or box to avoid scratching. If you wear your rhodium plated jewellery for significant periods of time, the plating will eventually wear down. To restore its bright white and gleaming appearance, you can have it re-plated.
If you have yellow gold jewellery, you can have it plated with rhodium to give it the bright white chrome finish of new white gold. To maintain this look, it may need quite a generous coating and may need to be re-plated relatively regularly, particularly if it is on a ring or a bracelet. If you change your mind, rhodium plating can be removed.
